Our week in Volos, Greece / 11-15.02.2019

20/02/2019

During this week of February the teams of three teachers of the Erasmus + project "Dealing with gifted Education" participated in our second international project meeting in Volos (Greece). There we joined the rest of the professors of our project with a great joy of seeing each other once we knew each other after our meeting in Spain

From the first moment of our arrival, the Greek team, led by Giannis Koniakis, made an effort to make us feel at home.

The reception of the students with their traditional dances to welcome us was very exciting. We were all infected with joy and in the end we all ended up dancing.

In this meeting we chose among the logos presented the one that seemed to us all more appropriate to represent our project. The chosen logo was that one brought by the Bulgarian team.

During this week we have done a review of a research on students of high abilities that the team from Greece presented to us, as well as Power Point presentations with the different treatments of high-ability students in each of our countries.

We observed that, in general, the treatment given to this type of student is the same in almost all countries although in they may be some little differences. However, what is still a problem at the moment is not only the detection of this type of students, but also the way of working with them in the inclusive classrooms, as they are in most of our schools.

The presentations that each of the schools made about characters that have stood out in each country for their importance as scientists, writers, artists, etc. It was very interesting and led us to determine that every person who comes to prominence throughout their life are people who have had a high intellectual capacity, but also, usually, have had a mentor who has realized their worth and has supported the person. They have usually been creative to put not expected ideas into action. They have been very persevering people and have dedicated long hours of work to their discipline. Finally, we believe that there is a component of luck that has made it possible for them to show their achievements.

All these factors have influenced the possibility of reaching relevant results for the rest of humanity.

Not all people of high abilities become illustrious or well-known people. Not all get to be at the peak of success, but behind many inventions, many important decisions, many works of art, many civil works, many medical treatments.... There are people of high abilities who have been able to find their way despite the difficulties.

Finally, we want to express our gratitude for the treatment we have received from our dear Greek team , their kindness, their joy, and the opportunity to see such nice landscapes and beautiful environment.

Thanks Greek Team!
